2019 Program

Crack Festival 2019 is for live performance that lives between the cracks

We’re a space for new artists to make their mark, for new art to flourish, and for exploring and engaging with Newcastle.

Last year we celebrated our 10th birthday in the only way we know how – by doing new things, with a new name, and a new team. We presented 76 events across 4 days and supported over 60 artists.

And this year will be no different. We’ve got new partnerships, new programs, and new ideas. So put the 2019 Festival dates in your diary if you want to see the performance pioneers of tomorrow make their debuts, and witness fervent acts of genius that you can’t begin to describe afterwards, but you know could only exist in that space and time, in Newcastle, at TiNA, at Crack Festival.

We’re teaming up with five art companies across NSW who support the development of young artists and experimental work to present GENERATE.

Supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW, the GENERATE program provides mentorship, creative development and producing support to young and emerging artists creating exciting new work.

In partnership with Merrigong Theatre Company, PACT, PYT – Fairfield, Shopfront Arts Co-op, and Tantrum Youth Arts, we will present the premieres of these new works at the 2019 Festival.

To support exciting, strange, and messy ideas to have their first showing, we’re curating PROTOTYPE – an immersive evening of rapid-development scratch works that respond to the landscapes, architecture, and artists of Newcastle.

Submissions for PROTOTYPE will open 1 July – and you don’t need a finished work to submit. Throw us an idea, a vision, and then build a prototype to present at the Festival.

Outside and between the two performance programs, we’ll carve out spaces to discuss, debate, play, and meet your future best friends and collaborators. To grow a community through the cracks.
