The dynamics and tensions of share house life come to the fore as five young housemates decide to throw a dance party. But with distractions at every corner, will this ever get off the ground? The fact that all five dancers have disability and are at various stages of trying to “leave home” in real life gives this struggle an extra “bite”. Share House celebrates pop culture and the housemates’ love of cheesy beats, wacky play, work avoidance, and one another. Mime, gesture and dance converge to create a world in which life itself is the party.

Tara Coughlan has been studying dance since age 4. She has performed at the Australian Youth Dance Festival Showcase, International Women’s Day Cabaret Canberra, and in the Australian Dance Award short-listed “Encounters” with Sprung!! “Share house is about all our history and our relationships. My character is Rachel.. her personality is lazy, pretty, and (aside) sexy!”

Max McAuley has danced every day since he could walk. He is a 2015-16 Catalyst Emerging Professional Dancers with Disability graduate, with a solo in the ADA nominated “Encounters”, and has a new Ozco-funded collaboration in the pipeline. “[While] I’m dancing I feel happy and sad, but after I’m finished dancing, I feel just happy. It’s in my heart…the good memories…my story”

Sinead Skorka Brennan has studied classical ballet and classical music (cello) since age 4, and continues her studies with Sprung!! and with Trevor Green in Brisbane where her parents are musicians in the Qld Symphony Orchestra. “My favourite part of the show so far is me and Tara and Lizzie – “what about your FRIENDS!”

Kayah Guenther featured in the short film, “The Battle” on abc iview, with mentor Gavin Webber, and has toured internationally to festivals in Paris and Chile, as well as participating in the 2017 Vienna ImPulsTanz Dance Festival thanks to an Arts NSW Young Regional Artist Scholarship. “My favourite part is the characters: Gabrielle, Rachel, Troy, …”

Elizabeth Venn has an extraordinary theatrical instinct, which has been showcased in Sprung!! works “A Day in the Life” , “Encounters”, and the short film sequence “Lizzie had a dream”, and now has a key role in SHARE HOUSE. “We have jobs and chores and lots of parties, and do your chores, put stuff away, ring people, and “I’M NOT YOUR MOTHER”, and food drinks and Kung Fu. WAH!”

Michael Hennessy performed with Sydney Dance Company for 9 years, and was head of Dance at Lismore Conservatorium from 1993-2007. Graeme Murphy wrote, “His rapport with students is quite extraordinary”. Artistic Director with Sprung!! since 2014, his work “Encounters” with them has been shortlisted for an Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Community Dance.

Kate McDowell is a writer and performer based in the Northern Rivers region of NSW. She holds NIDA postgraduate diploma (Writing for Performance), and is Associate Artist at NORPA, with a background in dance, physical theatre, and puppetry. She revels in being dramaturgical mentor with the exceptional artists of Sprung!!
