Crack X: where young, fresh, and bold Australian performance makers gather from across the nation to pursue brave ideas and share visionary new work.
We’re proud to be bringing artists from all over Australia together to this testing ground for new artists and new art right here in Newcastle. Our artists are flocking from Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Sydney, Merimbula, Currumbin Valley, and Newcastle to premiere 30 thrilling new works of installation, interactivity, performance poetry, and theatre.
A DIY Aussie talk show recruits a street-side studio audience.
A queer lady magician invites you into a secret society.
A Chinese spy thriller (with songs!) plays out live on stage.
Catch the work of sensational new artists first in Newcastle before they blow up the stages of our major cities. Representing 25 per cent of our program are local Newcastle-based artists, 38 per cent of our artists hail from regional Australia, and 86 per cent of our artists aged under 35.
Crack X is a place where artists and audiences get to discover something utterly, dazzlingly new across the streets, beaches, galleries and public venues of Newcastle over the September long weekend.
We’ll be launching our full program on 30 August. From that date, you’ll also be able to get all the program and artist information DIRECTLY FROM OUR WEBSITE. Progress! It’s happening!
Crack X is proudly part of This is Not Art – a cultural Festival produced by Octapod in association with Critical Animals and National Young Writers Festival.
